First Time

Hi guys, be gentle with me, this is my first post on my first Blog.

As the title says I'm just an average guy. I'm not planning on this blog being about anything specific at the moment, but who know where things will lead.

Any hoo, I'm reading Book 9 in Robert Jordans The Wheel of Time series, Winter's Heart, about two thirds of the way through. I don't know how many of you have read, are reading or have even heard of Robert and this series, but I will be talking about things that happen in this book (and possibly the previous 8 as well) so I'll say now that spoilers will follow.

Ok, things that have happened:

  • The Seanchan are invading & taking over bit by bit.
  • Faille has been captured by the Shaido Aiel.
  • Rand has been confronted by his three ladies; Min, Elayne and Aviendha and they've joined him as their Warder.
  • Rand has gone of with Min, Lan and Nynaeve on some mission.
  • Matt is still in Ebou Dar, struggling with Tylin, but he has just met the Daughter of the Nine Moons - he just doesn't know it yet.
  • The Aes Sedai, the Kin, The Aiel wise ones & Sea Folk are all trying to get the upper hand.
So things are hotting up again. I always find these books a little hard going at the beginning, but they always come good. At the moment Rand, Min, Lan, Nynaeve & a couple of others are in Far Madding. Rand is looking for the renegade Asha'man, he has found two - killed one, and is currently planning on moving on.

I'm finding the Character of Rand al'Thor less.... I'm not sure of the right word, but less seems to cover it. I suppose with the burden of the Final Battle coming up & the fear of going insane from touching Saidin he wouldn't be all sunshine and joy.

The books are really well written, you get very attached to the characters (but the you always do in a good book), but I can't read one after another with this series. I have to punctuate it with something else. Usually I just one after another in the series until it's done, but not with this series. I don't know if it's because 14 books long or what.

Does any one else have this problem, or is it just me.

Another Problem I have is that I've only recently started with this series & the books I'd bought had covers the same as the picture above (each one in a different colour). Next thing I know the publishers have decided to stop printing these covers & have commissioned a new artwork!

Don't get me wrong I quite like the new design, but since I already got several of the books with the other design (not to mention that these book were a different size) I had to keep them all the same (Oh, I also can't stand Movie covers on books - Ugh!). Fortunately I have now been able to locate all of the books in the same cover, so my mind can rest - well as much as it ever does.
